Terms for Secular Ethics

When we are doing secular ethics, I believe that we can safely avoid the words and binary opposition of “evil” and “good.”  The words “permissible,” “impermissible,” and “obligatory” work just fine for our purposes.  Our goal is not to determine”what is evil,” but what our beliefs and values entail that we “should” and “should not do” if we are to be rational and consistent.
