The “meaning of life” is a human construction. The human being is a meaning-making animal; personally and socially we make meaning out of the universe, meanings that range from detailed explanations of existing states of affairs (science) to fictional additions to the world (many forms of art). Life’s meaning is what we determine it to be. Intrinsically it has no meaning since meaning is not a quality of the universe independent of humanity, but a quality of human language, thought, and perception. But through us, it has many meanings; the universe is a polysign.
