A Quick Tip for Clearer Writing

A Tip for Clear Writing: Avoid starting sentences with ‘this’ without specifying what ‘this’ is (e.g. “This shows that…” or “this suggests that…” etc.). This sort of vague phrasing will usually lead your reader to ask “this WHAT?”

Instead, try adding a descriptive noun that answers the ‘this what?’ question: (e.g. “This argument reveals…,” “This behaviour suggests…,” “This position entails…”).  This simple addition to your sentences will make your writing both clearer and easier to follow.
