Values as a Ground for Ethics

Some have said that without a religion or God in which to ground ethics, there can be no ethics. However, we do have have shared values and similar interests, for we are the same kinds of beings. From values, we can draw principles. From principles, we can draw codes and approaches to ethical questions.  Even with no shared religion, there can be ethics.  Its ground is reason, moral feeling, human experience, and the reservoir of values that human beings share.
