The Egotism of the Allegedly Egoless

Some of the most egotistical people are those who claim to have ‘killed their egos.’ This is a phenomenon I call “the egotism of the allegedly egoless.” When prestige-granting ‘spiritual titles’ are added to the mix, the effect sometimes gets even stronger.

Their egos, which are very much still present and active, feel threatened by the presence of someone who claims a higher title, or they feel so arrogant themselves that anyone with a title must be a fraud. Thus, they feel a strong need to attempt to discredit these ‘frauds.’ In fact, it is they who are the frauds, victims of their own self-delusion.
